Over the next 6 years the Mobility Care Initiative will manufacture and supply over 6,000 wheelchairs and other mobility devices to disabled children in Tanzania.

Mobility Care designs for each individual child, and builds in our workshop in Iringa.

We pray that our efforts make a difference to some of 100,000 families in Tanzania who have children suffering from Cerebral Palsy.

If you would like to make an effort too, then please reach out to us. `We will be very glad to hear from you.

Hi, we are Elia, Samwel, Wiam and Makayro.

We are disabled because of cerebral palsy.

We are living in Iringa, Tanzania, in a village called Izazi.

We each got a wheelchair from Mobility Care in Iringa. Their fundis made them specially made for each of us, to match our size and condition.

My mum no longer has to carry me on her back. And it really helps me and her to get around. Paulina from Maasai Mamas has been giving us exercises to make our legs stronger.

Some of our happy clients.

Elia

Hi, I am Elia, I love my chair. I dont have to lie on the ground anymore. And it gives my Mum freedom to move without carrying me on her back.

Mariam and Wiam

We are part of the group in Izazi. Wiam is my jewel.  I am so happy to get support from Maasai Mamas and Mobility Care so my lovely daughter can grow and flourish

Design for Life

Designed for real children living in Villages. Using locally available material, eco-frindly and sustainable.

PROUDLY MADE IN IRINGA, TANZANIA

About us:

We are 5 ladies from Iringa. We were all moved by the situation of disabled children and the Mothers who cared for them. Especially moving was the plight of children with Cerebral Palsy unable to move their arms and legs, lying helpless on the ground, only getting around tied to their mothers' backs. Anyway we decided to take action to lighten that load for the Mothers. We decided to make wheelchairs. We had some experience already buying used chairs and rehabilitating using local fundis. We saw it was not so difficult. We developed a vision of a wheelchair, 100% made in Tanzania, specially designed to suit each child. We appointed an engineer to prepare trial designs and began the process of incorporating ourselves as an NGO. We were registered on 30 May 2025 under the NGO Act of 2002 with Registration number 04/NGO/R/9015.

Our Members

Paulina is our Chairman. She is a Maasai lady, herself disabled herself and trained as a physiotherapist. Paulina started Maasai Mamas to help children in her own community. Paulina has a stall at the Maasai Village in Iringa.

Hilder is our Treasurer and Executive Director. She holds a degree in Child Psychology. Hilder is a business woman, running a small homestay. Hilder's adopted sister suffered from CP.

Stella is our Secretary. She works as an administrator in a local hospital. Stella has a beautiful daughter who suffers from CP.

Mary is our Mentor. She worked as Manager for a local NGO for 8 years

Pendo is our Helper. She is an energetic and caring young woman working in the hospitality industry.

Our Funds

The work up to end June 2025 has been entirely self funded. This has been good because it has tested our dermination.

We are very blessed with generous patrons from Sweden. Their contribution is being used to properly set up our organization,  equip the workshop, train young staff, and design and build at least 1,000 chairs.

If you would also like to give support, please reach out to Hilder, our Director who will be delighted to discuss this with you.

Our Mobility Devices

Our chairs are designed to suit the needs of each individual child. We use appropriate technology and locally available materials, including re-using plastics in an eco friendly way. The chairs suit a rough rural environment and with no-puncture wheels, and removable seats. Size and shape is modified to suit each individual child.
